Eagle Men finish 10th in Augustana Invitational

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. (April 10, 2006) -- In their first tournament of the spring, the Edgewood College men’s golf team finished 10th out of 13 teams in the Augustana Invitational this past weekend.

“I thought that we might be able to finish several places higher but we had a rough first day.” said head coach Gary Oftehdal. “Each golfer had a trouble hole that gave them a 'big' number and consequently a higher score than they were hoping for.”

Leading the way for the Eagles was sophomore Andy Hosking (Madison, Wis.) who tied for 32nd by shooting an 81 in the first round and following up with an impressive round of 73 to finish with a combined score of 154. His 73 was the eighth best score on the second day of the tournament of 96 golfers who participated.

“[Hosking] is one of our top four golfers and we need solid scores like this out of him in our matches,“ said Oftehdal. “He has a good game and is learning to play with much more control. This will produce better scores for him in every match, as it will for all our golfers.”

Sophomore Joe Schwartz (McFarland, Wis.) finished tied for 47th place in the tournament with scores of 78 and 79 to finish with 157. Austin McGinley (Mt. Horeb, Wis.) also finished tied for 57th with respectable rounds of 81 and 78.
