MARQUETTE, Mich. (March 4, 2006) -- The Edgewood College softball team opened its 2006 season with a giant 10-1 victory over Northland College at the Superior Dome on Saturday. The Eagles (1-1) then fell to Augsburg College, 7-4, to wrap up their first day a tournament hosted by Finlandia University.

Jenifer Ley (Mineral Point, Wis.), Kristin Borre (Beloit, Wis.), and Noelle Wimer (Dodgeville, Wis.) each homered in the lopsided win over Northland, and freshman Charli Metcalf (Madison, Wis.) went a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate playing in her first collegiate contest.

In game two, Carrie Clum (Arvada, Colo.) was 3-for-4 on offense, but the Eagles offense couldn't overcome the Auggies.

Edgewood will wrap up its short stint at the season-opening tournament on Sunday with single games against Crown College beginning at 10 a.m. CST and The College of St. Catherine (2 p.m.).
