Eagle baseball scores 38 runs in sweeping Daniel Webster

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. (March 14, 2006) -- Edgewood College pounded out 28 hits and 38 runs in sweeping Daniel Webster College by scores of 14-3 and 24-7 in a baseball doubleheader from Disney's Wide World of Sports on Tuesday. The Eagles (6-4) improved their team batting average by 24 points to .317 and extended their winning streak to four games.

All but one of the 16 Eagle hitters who entered the lineup Tuesday crossed home plate at least once. Andrew Handorf (DeForest, Wis.) finished the day 5-for-6 with five RBIs. Nick Wilz (Appleton, Wis.) and Nate Meyer (Burlington, Wis.) drove in four runs each. Tom Caillouette (Wausau, Wis.) also jacked a three-run homerun in the sixth inning of game two.

Cody Flynn (Eureka, Calif.) and Jeff Potts (Kirkland, Wash.) were the winning pitchers. Flynn pitched four complete innings and struck out five batter without allowing any earned runs. Potts allowed two earned runs and fanned four in the five complete innings.

Game one was a sloppy game defensively for both teams, with each squad committing four errors. Only six of the 17 runs scored in the first game were earned. In the second game, five Daniel Webster pitchers combined for seven walks and four hit batsmen, while the defense committed three errors.

The Eagles will enjoy two consecutive days off before taking to the diamond for a doubleheader against Keystone College on Friday, March 17. Game versus Keystone is slated to begin at 8 a.m. CST.
