LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. (March 12, 2006) -- Edgewood College starting pitcher Andrew Handorf (DeForest, Wis.) struck out 13 batters and allowed just two hits Sunday as the Eagles (3-4) cruised to 12-1 victory in seven innings over Pikeville College (10-10) from Disney's Wide World of Sports. Eagle hitters also awoke from nearly a week-long slumber by collecting 12 hits in the contest.

Four Eagle batters garnered at least two base hits led by a 3-for-3 performance by Ricky Martinez (Beach Park, Ill.). Martinez finished a homerun shy of hitting for the cycle before he was taken out of the game in the bottom of the fourth inning.

Tyler Dahmen’s (Madison, Wis.) three-run, inside-the-park homerun in the top of the second highlighted a five-run frame for the Eagles. Dahmen blasted a shot to deep centerfield, and Pikeville centerfielder Justin Arms was giving chase but collapsed from an apparent leg injury. The game was suspended for approximately 45 minutes before Arms was hauled away in an ambulance.

Handorf also helped his own cause at the plate with three RBIs. Handorf doubled in the first inning to give Edgewood an early 2-0 lead, and he had a sacrifice fly in the second inning to extend to margin to 7-0.

On the mound, Handorf carried a no-hitter into the bottom of the fourth when, with two outs, the Bears’ Matt DeBlauw hit a line drive over the head of Eagle third baseman Jesse Anderson (Rochester, Minn.). Pikeville’s only other hit was a homerun to left filed by Rolando Quinenes in the bottom of the sixth. Handorf struck out the side in the seventh to cap the complete-game victory and improve to 1-0 on the season.

Edgewood will play a single game versus St. Mary’s College (Md.) at 6 p.m. CST on Monday, March 13.
