MADISON, Wis. (December 11, 2006) – Edgewood College had its four-game win streak snapped by Carthage College in a 65-53 non-conference loss at the Todd Wehr Edgedome on Monday night. Lisa Gartelos came off the Lady Reds bench to score 20 points and the Eagles couldn’t quite recover from a dismal first half.
Edgewood College had no answer for Gartelos, a 6-foot-1 center, who overpowered the Eagles’ post player and shot 9-of-16 from the floor. On the other end of the court, the Eagles (5-4) suffered from 7-of-22 (31.8 percent) shooting in the first period.
The second half started same as the first began. Gartelos’ layup midway through the second period gave the Lady Reds (5-2) a 27 point advantage, their largest lead of the game. Edgewood College then went on an 18-5 run and closed the margin to 11 points on a basket by Megan Scheele (New Glarus, Wis.) with 44 seconds remaining, but the rally was too little, too late.
Scheele scored 14 points on 5-of-6 shooting from the field and grabbed nine rebounds. Jordane Kittoe (Potosi, Wis.) scored 15 of her team-high 17 points in the second half, in addition to eight rebounds. Nickie Updike (Monticello, Wis.) added 13 points.
