MADISON, Wis. (October 31, 2006) – Concordia University – Wisconsin snapped a seven game Edgewood College winning streak Tuesday night with a 1-0 double overtime victory in the semifinal match of the Northern Athletics Conference Women’s Soccer Tournament from Breese Stevens Field. Jaclyn Ventimiglia scored the game winning goal in the 105th minute as the third-seeded Falcons (12-8) narrowly avoided a shootout and advance to the NAC Championship game at Aurora University.
The Eagles (12-5) seeded second in the 2006 tournament, defeated Concordia 2-1 at home less than two week ago in the regular season and Tuesday’s match played similarly to that contest, despite the final outcome. The two teams appeared evenly matched with the Eagles out shooting Concordia, 12-11.
Edgewood College benefited from seven corner kicks, including four in a row midway through the first period, but capitalized on none. Perhaps the Eagles’ best opportunity on a corner came in the 63rd minute when Elyse Clouthier (Oconomowoc, Wis.) missed a header that was just wide left of the Falcons’ goal.
Ventimiglia finally broke the scoreless draught when she recovered a ball that was mishandled in front of the Eagles’ goal and put it in the back of the net for the game winner.
