MADISON, Wis. (October 6, 2006) – Edgewood College lost a pair of volleyball matches on Friday, both by scores of 3-1 at the Todd Wehr Edgedome. The Eagles were defeated by Northern Athletics Conference opponent Concordia University Chicago (30-25, 30-26, 22-30, 30-19) followed by a non-conference loss to St. Norbert College (30-27, 28-30, 30-16, 30-21).

Kim Paskey (Poynette, Wis.) and Greta Gueths (Shawano, Wis.) each had 10 kills versus Concordia Chicago, but the Eagles (5-16, 4-3 NAC) could not counter a well-balanced offensive attack and strong defensive play by the visiting Cougars (14-4, 4-1 NAC). Concordia Chicago’s effort was best exemplified by Jessica Nahnsen, who finished with 28 assists, 12 digs, five blocks, and eight kills. Defensively, Ellie Peckham (Richland Center, Wis.) paced The College with 17 digs.

The Eagles competed well against St. Norbert early as the two teams split the first two games. However, the Green Knights proved to be too much to handle with five players recording double digits in kills and four with double digits in digs. In addition, St. Norbert displayed an intimidating presence at the net with 21 team blocks, 15 of which came from Joanna Mamayek.

Paskey registered 15 kills in 40 attack attempts and had six blocks for the Eagles. Dayna McCauley (Cuba City, Wis.) dished out 51 assists and Peckham rounded out her day with 17 more digs, nine kills, and four service aces.
