MADISON, Wis. (October 28, 2006) -- Benedictine University scored in the 88th minute and scrambled to find one last opportunity against Edgewood College Saturday in first round action of the Northern Athletics Conference Men's Soccer Tournament, but Edgewood College had already done its damage earlier in the second half to walk out of Breese Stevens Field with a 2-1 victory.

With the win the Eagles (11-4-2), seeded fourth in six-team tournament field, advance to Wednesday's semifinal round and will travel to either top-seeded Dominican University or No. 2 seed Aurora University. Game time and location will be announced later today.

Junior defender Tyler Burcalow (Middleton, Wis.) picked the perfect time to score his first goal of the season and just the second of his career, unassisted, two minutes into the second period to give the College a 1-0 advantage.

Benedictine (7-8-4), which started the match in a 5-4-1 defensive set and switched into a more offensive strategy later in the game, surrendered its second goal of the afternoon when Andriy Apetrey (Lozani, Ukraine) snuck past a lone defender and capitalized on a touch pass from Shaun Glynn (Prairie du Sac, Wis.) to score what proved to be the eventual game winner at 82:54.

Following the contest, Edgewood College paid tribute to seniors Scott Longely (Green Bay, Wis.) and Jeremy Thoe (Waupaca, Wis.), who likely played in their last game at Breese Stevens Field in an Eagle uniform.
