Baseball remains undefeated in LMC

WATERTOWN, Wis. – The Edgewood College baseball team outscored Maranatha Baptist Bible College 30-4 in a Lake Michigan Conference doubleheader in Watertown on Saturday. As a result the Eagles, who won by scores of 11-1 and 19-3, improved their overall record to 14-6 while their mark in league play remained unscathed at 6-0.

Edgewood’s Cody Flynn (Eureka, Calif.) struck out eight Crusaders (3-15, 0-6 LMC) and pitched a one-hitter en route to the complete game victory in the first contest. Run support wasn’t a problem as the Eagles jumped out an early 7-0 lead after the first two innings and added four more runs in the top of the sixth.

Nick Wilz (Appleton, Wis.) went 3-for-3 at the plate with four RBI and two runs scored, and Andrew Handorf (DeForest, Wis.) drove in two runs and was 2-for-3 against Crusader pitching.

In game two Edgewood again raced to an early lead highlighted by a nine-run second inning. The Eagles batted around in the top of the second with nine of the team’s 15 hits coming in the frame.

Wilz completed his perfect day at the plate going 2-for-2 with four more RBI. John Fish (Wisconsin Dells, Wis.) led all Edgewood batters with a 3-for-4 performance, including a triple, five RBI, and a pair of runs. Nick LeNoble (Appleton, Wis.) and Joe Feistel (Appleton, Wis.) each garnered two hits.

Ryan Duntemann (Arlington Heights, Ill.) started the game on the mound for the Eagles and lasted five complete innings. Duntemann allowed three hits and two earned runs with three strikeouts. He was relieved by freshman Chris Welch (Zion, Ill.), who hurled two innings, allowing one hit and an earned run, while fanning two.

The Eagles will travel to Lakeland College on Sunday, April 10 for an LMC doubleheader versus the Muskies. First pitch is scheduled for Noon in Sheboygan.
