SHEBOYGAN, Wis. – Edgewood College (6-8, 2-0 LMC) swept a Lake Michigan Conference softball doubleheader at Lakeland College (4-10, 0-2 LMC) on Tuesday. The Eagles won game one by final score of 6-1 followed by a 4-1 victory in game two.
Five different Eagles cross home plate in game one, and Jennifer Stephens (St. Charles, Ill.) scored twice, as Edgewood took advantage of seven errors by the Muskies. Defensively, Edgewood committed just one error and was backed by the solid pitching of Brittany Butcher (St. Charles, Ill.) and Jessica Courchaine (Marathon, Wis.).
Butcher (4-4), who today picked up her second LMC Player of the Week award of the 2005 season, went six innings, allowing four hits and striking out six. Courchaine then pitched a flawless seventh inning by retiring the side and fanning two out of the three batters she faced.
Butcher led Edgewood offensively in game two, going 2-for-3 at the plate with a pair of RBI. Nichole Johnson (Waunakee, Wis.) also went 2-for-3 with two runs scored.
Amy Bahler (Monroe, Wis.) went the distance in the pitcher’s circle for the Eagles and improved her season record to 2-4. The freshman allowed six hits without an earned run and struck out three.
Edgewood will host Beloit College (7-7) on Wednesday, April 6 in the Eagles’ home opener from McGaw Park in Fitchburg. The doubleheader is scheduled to start at 4 p.m.
