MADISON, Wis. (Dec. 3, 2005)-- The Edgewood College men's basketball team lost a tough home conference matchup Saturday afternoon as the Lakeland College Muskies (5-1, 2-0 LMC) came into the Todd Wehr Edgedome and defeated the Eagles (3-3, 1-1 LMC) by a final score of 82-61.
Senior Seth Cooper* (Madison, Wis.) led the Eagles with 26 points and Charlie Averkamp (New Berlin, Wis.) added 11 points and 10 rebounds. The Muskies outscored Edgewood 45-31 in the second half to pull away from the preseason conference favorite.
The Eagles trailed 37-31 going into the locker room at halftime. A lay-in by Cooper just after the break got Edgewood College back to within four point, but that was as close as the Eagles would get.
A free throw by Lakeland's Peter Worth with less than 10 minutes remaining in the contest helped Worth complete a three-point play, following a personal foul by the Eagles' Ryan Johnsen (Greedale, Wis.), and also capped off a 10-0 run by the Muskies, who increased their lead to 63-43, and the Eagles would never return.
Edgewood College will have a chance to get its winning percentage back above .500 this Tuesday, Dec. 6, when the Eagle will host Maranatha Baptist Bible College. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. at the Todd Wehr Edgedome.
