Slow start ends in an Eagle loss at MSOE

MILWAUKEE (Dec. 10, 2005) -- Floyd Bayiha scored 30 points as the Milwaukee School of Engineering defeated the Edgewood College men's basketball team 73-58 from the Kern Center on Saturday.

The Eagles (4-4, 2-2 LMC) dropped back down to .500 with the loss after getting behind early due to some hot shooting by the host Raiders (6-2, 3-0), who find themselves on top of the Lake Michigan Conference standings.

MSOE raced out to a 13-0 lead just under six minutes into the game. Bayiha's layup with 14:20 left in the first half forced Edgewood head coach Steve Larson to take his second team timeout in an effort to regroup. But Larson's attempt to energize his troops was unsuccessful. Later in the first half, the Raiders extended the margin to 19 points -- their largest lead of the game -- on another basket by Bayiha near the five-minute mark.

Edgewood College made a late surge, however, and was able to cut the MSOE lead down to six when Luke Wainwright (Verona, Wis.) netted two of his career-high 14 points with 6:32 left to play to make the score 53-47 in favor of the Raiders. But that was where the Eagle rally would end.

Charlie Averkamp (New Berlin, Wis.) led Edgewood College with 20 points and eight rebounds. Seth Cooper* (Madison, Wis.) added 12 points and six boards.

The Eagles will try to rebound from the tough loss this Tuesday, Dec. 13 when they host UW-La Crosse in a non-conference tilt slated for a 7 p.m. tip-off at the Todd Wehr Edgedome. Live streaming audio of the game can be heard on www.EdgewoodCollegeEagles.com with pre-game scheduled for 6:45 p.m.
