FORSYTH, Ill. (Oct. 2, 2005) -- The Edgewood College men's golf team traveled to Hickory Point Golf Course this past weekend to compete in the Big Blue Classic hosted by Millikin University. The Eagles finished a respectable 6th out of 8 teams and set a school record for both a 36 hole total (607)and an 18 hole total (298).
The Eagles were led by freshman Dusty Schwab (Waunakee, Wis.) who tied for medalist honors with a 143, but took second by way of a scorecard tie breaker. Schwab carded a 73 on Friday, followed with a two-under par 70 on Saturday. Mike Brennan (Prairie du Sac, Wis.) also finished in the top 20 as he fired a 150 on the day, good enough for a 13th place finish.
Head Coach Gary Oftedahl was pleased with his team's weekend performance. "We faced three of the best NAIA schools out of St. Louis, Mo. and several of the NCAA central regions best...For the first time ever in schools history, we broke the 300 barrier for an 18 hole tournament total. We when get to this level we are treading in water where the National Tournament teams go. It was a very successful weekend for the entire team."
The Eagles finish out their conference play this coming weekend at the MSOE Invite before gearing up for the LMC Championships held at Whistling Straits in Kohler, Wisconsin.
