SHEBOYGAN, Wis. – Junior forward Seth Cooper* (Madison, Wis.) and senior center Greg Blaska (DeForest, Wis.) each posted a double-double on Saturday to lead the Edgewood College men’s basketball team to an 81-73 victory at Lakeland College.
Cooper tallied 25 points and 10 rebounds, while Blaska scored 22 points with 10 boards, as the Eagles (5-2) improve to 3-0 in the Lake Michigan Conference. Freshman Charlie Averkamp (New Berlin, Wis.), who entered Saturday’s contest as the league’s leading scorer and rebounder, left the game early in the first half due to an apparent injury. Averkamp’s status for Tuesday’s home game versus Clarke College is unknown at this time.
Meanwhile, the Muskies fall to 2-5 overall and 0-2 in the LMC. Lakeland’s Kris Saiberlich led four Muskies scoring in double figures with a game-high 26 points.
Senior David Michalkiewicz*’s (Menasha, Wis.) basket with three seconds remaining in the first half gave the Eagles a comfortable 41-29 lead at halftime. Michalkiewicz scored nine of his 13 points in the first half.
The Muskies went on a 14-5 run and came within five points of the lead on a three-point play by James Germaayne with 6:09 remaining. However, Kyle Scott (Burlington, Wis.) and Cooper connected on a number of clutch free throws down the stretch to fend off the threatening Muskies.
Tuesday’s game against Clarke College is scheduled for 7 p.m. in the Todd Wehr Edgedome.
