Fond du Lac, Wis. – No. 3 Edgewood College (11-7-2) made a statement with Wednesday’s 4-0 shutout over No. 2 Marian College (7-10-2) in the Lake Michigan Conference semifinals. The Eagles will play for their fourth LMC tournament championship this Saturday, Nov. 6 at top-seeded Concordia University (15-4).
Dan Butz (Green Bay, Wis.) gave Edgewood College a 1-0 lead at the 20:28 mark on an unassisted goal. However, that was all the offense either team could muster in the first half of play. Mark Losby (Mt. Horeb, Wis.) gave the Eagles a 2-0 advantage minutes into the second half on a penalty kick, and Ross Hannon (Prairie du Sac, Wis.) then scored twice on assists from Butz and Jim Brandon (DeForest, Wis.).
The time for Saturday’s LMC championship has yet to be announced. The winner will receive the league’s automatic bid to the NCAA Regional. The Falcons, who earned the right to play in last year’s national tournament, are currently ranked 10th in the NSCAA/Adidas Central Region Poll. Edgewood College defeated Concordia 3-1 in double overtime back on Oct. 5 in Mequon, Wis. The Eagles have not been to the NCAA tournament since 1999.
