Women's Basketball improves to 2-1 with big win at Beloit College

Beloit, Wis. – Sophomore Jordane Kittoe (Potosi, Wis.) led all scorers with 26 points, as the Edgewood College women’s basketball team improved to 2-1 with a big 70-58 victory at Beloit College (1-2) on Wednesday.

Edgewood College trailed the Buccaneers at halftime, 30-29, but shot 63.5 percent (15-of-24) as a team in the second half to walk away with the win. For the game, Kittoe shot 9-of-16 from the floor, including six three-point baskets, and also led the Eagles with 11 rebounds.

Edgewood College took the lead for good with 13:32 left to play on a three-pointer by Kittoe to make the score 43-40 in favor of the Eagles. Senior Katie Hensgen (Waunakee, Wis.) hit some clutch free throws down the stretch to help widen the gap. Hensgen connected on 6-of-7 shots from the charity strip, all in the second half, and finished with 11 points, five steals, and five assists.

Sophomore Jessica Abel (Menasha, Wis.) also came up big for the Eagles. Abel scored 12 points and went 2-of-3 from beyond the Arc. As a team, Edgewood College is shooting an astounding 41.2 percent from long distance this season.

Michele Westerkamp led Beloit College with 21 points and 11 rebounds. Also scoring in double figures for the Buccaneers were Becky Nelson and Breeze Barlament, who added 15 and 10 points, respectively.

The Eagles will attempt to win their third straight game this weekend, when they host undefeated UW-Oshkosh (3-0) at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 27. The Titans pounded fellow Lake Michigan Conference opponent Concordia University, 98-33, on Tuesday. Saturday’s contest between Edgewood College and UW-Oshkosh will be held at the Todd Wehr Edgedome in Madison.
