, Wis. – Following back-to-back shutouts to close out the regular season, the Edgewood College men’s soccer team rallied to defeat Maranatha Baptist Bible College on Saturday, 5-2, in the first round of the Lake Michigan Conference Tournament from Breese Stevens Field.

No. 3 Edgewood College (10-7-2) got a pair of goals from Mark Losby (Mt. Horeb, Wis.) and Ross Hannon (Prairie du Sac, Wis.) and another from Scott Longley (Green Bay, Wis.) near the end of regulation.

Losby and Hannon each registered their first goals early into the first half – Losby scored at the 2:15 mark followed by Hannon at 10:05. The Crusaders answered with a goal from Stephen Roby, whose wind-aided ball from roughly 30 yards out found its way past the reach of Edgewood College goalkeeper Ryan Flohr (Fond du Lac, Wis.).

Maranatha Baptist (9-10) evened the score on a goal by Travis Ulrich at 41:44. The Eagles took the lead into the half, however, when Hannon tallied his second goal with less than a minute left before the intermission.

With the win, the Eagles march into the seminal found round of the LMC tournament, where they will face No. 2 Marian College (7-9-2) on Wednesday, Nov. 3 in Fond du Lac, Wis. The winner will advance to the LMC Championship match, which is scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 6 at the highest seed. Maranatha Baptist has been eliminated from the LMC postseason.
