Eagles Cross Country Preview

The Edgewood College cross country squads enter year two under head coach Matthew Heinzman after a 2023 that saw several personal bests, multiple NACC Player of the Week accolades, and Ally Verbauwhede reaching the NCAA Division III Championship. The Eagles will look to continue their success with a mix of returning runners and new faces.
 

“I am excited to see where the women's and men's programs go this year,” said head coach Heinzman. “We want to continue our growth from the last cross-country/track season.”

The Eagles are set to run in seven meets in their 2024 slate. They open on Friday, August 30 with the Rockford University River Invite, followed by the John Kurt Invite on Saturday, September 7. They will run at the Private College Championships on Saturday, October 19, before competing at the NACC Championships on Saturday, November 2. Edgewood College will head to Northfield, Minnesota on Saturday, November 16 to compete at the NCAA North Regionals before wrapping up the season at the Division III NCAA Championships on Saturday, November 23.

Matthew Heinzman enters his second season heading the cross country and track & field programs. His first season saw Ally Verbauwhede reach the NCAA Division III Championships, several personal bests, and multiple NACC Player of the Week accolades.

By the Numbers

2nd - The women's cross country squad placed 2nd at the Warhawk Open last season, beating out the likes of UW-Whitewater.

3 - A mix of new and old faces will look to step up to replace Ally Verbauwhede, who won three races last season.
